AN UNLIKELY
COLLABORATION
“I initially wanted to make sure Mark
wasn’t taking advantage of the Prairie
Dunes brand, so I direct-messaged
him,” recalls Jackson. What followed
was a robust conversation and a
beautiful collaboration with Rivard
and his Charcoal Art company to
commemorate Maxwell’s original nine
holes — The Maxwell Collection.
From July 2025 through October 2025,
Rivard went deep to capture Prairie
Dunes in his own unique and mystical
style. “My artwork is a form of very
layered mixed media using pen, pencil,
Sharpie, spray paint, oil and acrylic
paint and more,” he says. “Charcoal
allows me to build intense contrast
and intrigue, and unique elements
like coffee and wine create interesting
reactions between the mediums.”
Rivard used a special Prairie Dunes
Maker’s Mark Private Selection
bourbon in the creation of The Maxwell
Collection. To ensure all nine paintings
were consistent, he strategically created
all nine at the same time, painstakingly
building one layer at a time across each
of the nine holes.
The entire Maxwell Collection was
unveiled in late October 2025 and is
now proudly displayed in the clubhouse
along with a mesmerizing painting of
our beloved yucca plant. Artist prints
are available for purchase through the
Charcoal Golf website.
GOING POSTAL
Then the pandemic hit. Rivard’s work
with schools obviously came to a
grinding halt, but a single Instagram
post lit a brand new fire. Rivard offered
followers an original sketch, mailed
through the U.S. Post Office, for a mere
$10 based on the follower providing
a one-word prompt. He was instantly
overwhelmed with 800+ requests!
His next iteration of this popular proffer
caught the eye of Prairie Dunes National
Member Steve Warren, who requested a
sketch of Prairie Dunes Hole 10. When
Rivard showcased the Hole 10 artwork
on his Instagram account it caught the
attention of PD Membership Director
Carissa Jackson.
“I stood there looking down Carey Lane and it hit
me that I was about to shake hands with the man
I’d spend the next three months in collaboration
with as I painted his world.”
